Worship is not about ourselves. It is not about how we feel or how it makes us feel. Worship is to give honor to God through adoring reverence. Worship is about adoring HIM. We Praise Him through the act of expressing our adoration of HIM. Worship is not about me, it is not about you, it is about Him. Doing this requires us to humble ourselves and magnify Him.

I will praise the name of God with a song, an will magnify Him with thanksgiving.” Psalm 69:30.**

When giving honor and praise to the God of all creation, how should we do so? In the book of John we read about what Jesus said when he told the woman at the well how true worshipers would worship.

“But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:23,24.

Do you see that? The Father is seeking those who will offer him such worship as is in spirit and truth.

Are you worshiping in truth? Have you ever considered why are there so many churches all of them proclaiming they are in truth, I dare to say that there is only one truth. In John chapter 14, Jesus is speaking with his disciples and telling them about his Father’s house. He tells them that he is going there to prepare a place for them, (and ultimately for all of us who seek to follow him) and that they know the way to his Father’s house, but Thomas questioned the Lord saying,

“Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?” Jesus responds with: “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

Do you see that? THE TRUTH. The word THE is singular, indicating only ONE. There is only one way to the Father, through one truth who is the life, Jesus Christ himself.  Jesus says, he is it. Only through him can we be in truth.

So when we worship we must worship in him, for he is truth. Last week I discussed with you what Jesus has said is his plan for you to come to be in his truth, you can find that here in the 5th part of this series.

So too are we to worship in spirit. How then, does one become of the spirit? In Acts 2 on the day of Pentecost when the church was first established Peter the Apostle of Jesus Christ answers this question for us.

“Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Acts 2:38.

Here we see that it is through our obedience of his commandment, that we shall receive the Holy Spirit. If you continue reading.

And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.” Acts 2:47.

Through this obedience we receive the Holy Spirit and are added to THE church. Again here we see the use of the singular word, THE, indicating ONE church.

Now when we come together in THE church and are worshiping in spirit and in truth we can see that we are to be in him with his spirit dwelling in us. This is where we find unity with the Father. Jesus prayed for us:

“I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word;  that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me” John 17:20,21.

Christ desires that we be one with the Father through him and the indwelling of the spirit. Just as the Father, the Son and the Spirit are one Godhead. They desire for us to be one with them. Unity. When we come together in worship we unite as one in the body of Christ endeavoring to:

“…walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.” Ephesians 4:1b-6.

“Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus, that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.Romans 15:5,6.

He desires for His children to be unified in ONE mind so that we may with One mind and One mouth glorify God the Father. One.
